Fearne: Abortion amendment bill to be presented ‘in coming weeks’

Health Minister Chris Fearne has announced that the revised abortion amendment bill will be presented in the coming weeks

“Internal discussions appear to have come to an end”, Fearne said in parliament’s House Business Committee on Wednesday afternoon.

He said it had been a “comprehensive process” with all stakeholders included, “both associations representing doctors, and those representing women”.

The government initially wanted to fast-track the bill through parliament, but received backlash from doctors for the amendment’s diffuse wording.

Labour sources told Bonġu in December the party pushed for the final parliamentary vote on the bill to take place in February, “come what may”.
